Heights House Master Bedroom Reveal

August 26, 2020 | By Jenna Sue Room Reveals, Heights House

I’ve been waiting for this day ever since we moved into the Heights House 14 months ago!

heights house master bedroomPin
Moving day, June 2019

Over the last month I finally pulled it all together with a new bed, rug, artwork and accessories… and it has now taken the lead as my favorite room in the house. Just for fun, let’s go way back to when it was still under construction—here’s an oldie from January 2019:

Pin

And here’s our master oasis today…

Pin

If anyone needs me, I’ll just be here in bed for the rest of 2020.

Pin

With my cat, of course.

Pin

This gorgeous rug was the jumping off point for the color scheme—warm terra-cotta, peach and earth tones.

Pin

It’s the 8×10′ size and there’s definitely more color variation than my camera captured—the product photos are an accurate representation. It looks red in these photos but it’s really not in person—mostly rust/peach and black, but there’s also some beige, olive green, gold and blue. New favorite rug!

Pin

I spent months searching for the perfect canopy bed. I wanted something tall to work with our vaulted ceilings, and this was the tallest I found—and it was pretty affordable too. We’re both very happy with the quality!

Pin

And if you’re wondering—the bed is every bit as comfy as it looks (actually, even moreso). Never underestimate the power of quality linens.

Pin

After sleeping in cotton sheets my whole life, I decided it was time to give linen a try. So many people swear by them for their durability/longevity, cooling properties, and hypoallergenic nature. I personally love that perfectly-lived-in look, and most importantly the fact that I never have to iron them!

Pin

Magic Linen sent me a set of their stone-washed linen sheets in ivory, and they took our bedding game to the next level. I feel like I’m staying in a fancy hotel every night.

Pin

Lucas is normally a hot sleeper and he says he’s definitely felt cooler and hasn’t sweat at all since switching over, so maybe there’s something to that. I’m still trying to make the adjustment from silky smooth cotton to textured linen, but these will also soften over time.

Pin

This waffle weave blanket is also from Magic Linen, and I can’t get enough of it. Susie agrees.

Pin

I know you’re wondering about the pillows too! These were gifted from Jolie Marche. I chose two 24×24″ pillow covers in olive, and their 14×24″ Beatrice pillow cover.

Pin

This whole muted earth tone color palette is so dreamy…

Pin

I said I wasn’t ready for fall to start, but these colors and cozy textiles are quickly changing my mind. If my design style was a season, it’s 100% fall, hands down. Who’s with me?

Pin

The ivory velvet curtains have been here since Day 1, and they’re still going strong.

Pin

So is this antique dresser I refinished 6+ years ago and brought with me from California.

Pin

Here’s how the entrance looks:

Pin

A couple weeks ago I painted my $50 secondhand armoire light gray to break up all the wood tones (I used Maison Blanche’s Franciscan Gray and dark brown wax)

Pin

And at the last minute I decided this empty corner needed a tree, so I found the cutest little olive tree that I think even looks more life-like than our living room tree (the ETA says 1-2 months but mine arrived in a week!)

Pin

I’m currently in the process of making another hypertufa planter for the tree—have you been watching it on my Instagram stories?

Pin

Here’s the view from our closet. One day we’ll tackle that project (before next year, if we have time!)

Pin

Fall is slowly sneaking into our house, and these preserved red eucalyptus leaves were calling my name…

Pin

The glow of scented candles and sconces provide the perfect ambiance on a rainy day.

Pin

I know we’re in the middle of building an office, but I’ve been perfectly happy working from bed lately.

Pin

I’m not sure I’ll be able to drag myself out of it and go upstairs to work. Can you blame me?

Pin

Who else is working from bed these days? Tell me I’m not the only one…

    Hi!
Would love to know how you combined the Ikea Storslagen curtains to make them look like one long run in both your bedroom and livingroom. Thanks!

Hi Lacea, we placed two rods side by side in the bracket. They fit snugly and since each end touches the wall, they don’t move!

Jenna, I’m trying to find the rug in your master bedroom in the color you purchased. From the Amazon link to the rug is the color called: Auburn / Multi?

    Thanks!

Hi Deborah, that is correct! Unfortunately this color is on backorder now and isn’t expected to restock until mid-October 🙁

Gorgeous room! Is the color on the rug Auburn/multi?

Love everything about this room! Did I miss a link for the nightstand tables? Please share …thanks!

Thanks Diane! These were thrift store finds 🙂 You can find info for all the sources at the bottom of the post!

Thank you SO MUCH…that settles it: it’s “the perfect canopy bed” for us, too! 🙂

First, this looks amazing and I’m getting inspired by so many things! Thank you!!

Second, I’m going a bit cross-eyed and loopy from online searching for the perfect canopy bed so please forgive me if you did mention somewhere the height of your bed’s canopy. I know that was an important measurement for you, too, so I hope you have a moment and are willing to measure it For me as I can’t find that data on the product page. It’s out of stock and I’m not sure if I should stop all research and just wait or keep going if it’s wrong for our room.

Thanks again for all the awesome, inspiring content!!

Hi Whitney! The bed comes to 90″ h 🙂

This is absolutely GORGEOUS! One question for you – what was the process like for adding the beams to your ceiling? Our bedroom has a similar look/feel, and I have wanted to add beams to the ceiling for a long time now, but wasn’t sure how pricey or time-consuming it might be…

Hi Jenna! This room is beautiful! I would love to know what kind of finish you did for the walls (flat, eggshell, etc). I’m in the middle of trying to decide what finish to use for our walls and I can’t decide.

Thank you! I always use flat in bedrooms/living spaces 🙂

Love the room! It’s beautiful! I’m very interested in your mirror in the entry. Where did you get it from? Sorry I didn’t see it in the list of products. Thank you so much!

Love your work! Are you ceilings painted same colors as your walls? And what finish did you decide on? Semi-gloss?

Another absolutely gorgeous room! I’d do my work in there too! Happy birthday to your beautiful sweet baby girl. Can hardly believe she’s gonna be a year old already ?

Gorgeous! You are so crazy talented AND the queen of good finds. Not fair! I should hate you but your blog is my fave so I’d only be hurting myself. I just recently ordered a linen duvet. It wasn’t cheap and I was worried it might not live up to the hype but my only regret is not going over to the linen side sooner! Now I know my next sheets will be linen for sure.
Happy 1st birthday to Esmé! May she grow up to be just as talented as her mother!

The room turned out beautifully, but nothing compares to that adorable face! Happy 1st birthday to Esme!

Thank you Arlene! She makes it awfully difficult to get anything done around here 😉

      August 27, 2020 at 11:11 am

Aww thank you so much Jessi ? I promise I’m not that lucky… I just spend an ungodly amount of time looking for deals online! Eventually you’re bound to find something 🙂 I’m hopeful that these sheets will stand the test of time. I just can’t get over how effortless and luxurious they look, even if they aren’t as soft as cotton!

        August 28, 2020 at 4:08 pm

I believe it! Bargain hunting is a full time job…and you somehow fit it in with every thing else you do! The linen, I know, it just looks so good. I find myself stopping in the hallway to just gaze at my duvet multiple times a day. Total dork. ☺

Hi. Your room looks beautiful. Could you tell me about your box spring? How are you covering it? Thank you

Thanks Katherine! I just use a fitted sheet over the box spring 🙂
