I interrupt your regularly scheduled holiday programming with breaking news: the Twin Bedroom is officially finished!

Let’s start with a project recap. This bedroom is one of the guest rooms in our Spanish Sanctuary rental, known as the “twin bedroom” for its matching twin beds. Here’s how it all started…

Before

It began as a basic 10โ10โ x 14โ4โณ room, slapped together in true Florida builder-grade fashion with one awkwardly placed window.

Progress
We gutted it, installed wood flooring, upgraded the doors, ran new electric and skim-coated the walls.

The Design
Inspired by a charming gingham trundle bed, I dreamed up a space that I dubbed Country Cottage meets Country Club. I wanted a room that felt warm and whimsical, but still tailored and grown-up. Equal parts masculine and feminine, playful and polished. A place where guests of all ages would feel welcome.

And after many weeks of planning, designing and creating, my vision has come to life!
After
Welcome to the cozy cottage club…

The wall color is definitely a main character, and I pulled a rich terracotta brown from the rug to set the tone. It’s a little tricky to capture and shifts based on the angle/lighting, but I’m really happy with the color (Benjamin Moore Maplewood).

Ahh, this sweet twin bed. The star of the show. I couldn’t believe the price when I saw it, and scooped two up right away. It ended up selling out (everywhere!) not long after, but I tracked it down again on Amazon for an incredible deal (but that one goes in and out of stock, so I found a backup here).

Apart from the darling design, the bed has a pull-out trundle with another twin mattress. We’re able to comfortably sleep four adults in this room, which was the biggest challenge. There aren’t many nice trundle beds at an affordable price point, so I really hit the jackpot. (I used these memory foam mattresses, 6″ for the top and 5″ for the trundle).

This bedroom connects to a jack and jill bath shared with the next room (design plan for that coming soon!) so I continued the same warm, earthy neutrals, dark woods, and natural textures to create a cohesive flow.

The closet is still on our to-do list and will eventually get a proper storage system (and maybe new doors?) before guests arrive. For now, we color drenched it by painting it in the same hue as the walls, just in a satin sheen.

The Loloi Rue rug was the second piece I chose for this space, and I knew it was the one from the moment I saw it. Itโs just as gorgeous in person, and the quality feels durable enough for heavy use. I layered a rug pad underneath for extra cushion and to help keep it from shifting.

I love the tailored look of the bolster pillows and managed to track some down on Amazon just in time for the shoot. As cute as they are, I may end up leaving them off, as they’d just end up on the floor and hard to keep clean with guests sleeping there.

I opted for rattan sconces to add another layer of texture and tie in with the woven rug and shade. We put them on separate dimmers to give guests full control of reading/mood lighting (peep the vintage patina brass dimmer switchโso chic!)

I sourced the vintage brown and black horse paintings from Etsy, and modified the design to include a stamped cutout and fun striped background in soft green and yellow. The frames were found at a thrift store, and I gave them new life with spray paint and rub n buff.

The tennis rackets are also vintage, sourced on eBay. I love their sense of history and nod to classic sports.

This project was such a fun and fulfilling creative outlet for me, and I hope our guests feel that same warmth when they walk in.

This room is stunning! I adore the richness and the creativity. I love how you speak to the process and how the art of planning and executing feeds your soul. You’re a true artist!
Also, can we talk about pillows in rentals? While they look great in pictures, I hate going to a vacation rental and putting away all the little pillows in closets, because my fear is that our family will get them dirty. And my other fear is that other families got them dirty before and they don’t all get deep cleaned between guests. Now that I’ve shared this much so far, I can say that shared pillows actually kind of disgust me. One vote for pillow minimalism.

Thank you Julie! The decorative pillows are for the photos, we’ll only have sleeping pillows and maybe an extra cushion or two for comfort when in use.

Hi Jenna Sue,
Lovely and very classy room. Love that daybed with the scallops. So cute. This is a very classy room
and I am sure anyone would enjoy a stay there. My children always had day beds, because it gave them more room to play in, then when they had friends over for the night they just pulled out the trundle. It worked great for us. I knew someone whose child when told to clean her room, would just shove everything under her bed, so a trundle also solves that problems as well. lol
Happy Thanksgiving,
Blessings, Nellie

Trundle beds really are the best combination of form and function. I use them all the time in our rentals! Happy Thanksgiving to you Nellie.

Jenna, TRULY well-done! I found the pattern play so inspiring. I donโt think I would have ever thought to pair the black and white bed with the brown walls, but man does it work! You accessorized it amazingly. I bet it feels wonderful walking into that room. Love it all!

I appreciate the kind words, Julie! These types of spaces are always the most fun to design ๐
