Bedroom 4 & 5: Cottage House Flip Reveal

March 9, 2017 | By Jenna Sue Room Reveals, Cottage Flip

Today you’re getting a double dose of reveal action with Bedrooms 4 and 5! Watch the transformation by clicking on the image below:
4-5Pin

First up: Bedroom 4.

img_1717Pin

I have to admit, even the Before was pretty adorable.

img_1718Pin

I didn’t want to lose that sweetness, and at one point even considered leaving at least one wall of wallpaper.

img_1719Pin

But in the end, decided it would be better to have a clean slate with white walls. The dresser fit perfectly, so I kept it and painted it a soft muted green with my favorite furniture paint:

img_5426Pin

I also painted the wall paneling (in the only gray used in this house, Valspar Woodlawn Colonial Gray):

img_5469Pin

And before I knew it, sweet little Bedroom 4 was done!

IMG_8185Pin

IMG_8324Pin

IMG_8326Pin

Much like the last two bedrooms, the design of this space was based on a floral quilt I found on Wayfair and fell in love with.

IMG_8329Pin

From there, I selected the green paint color from the dresser which coordinated quite nicely.

IMG_8334Pin

And the mirror was already in the house when I bought it. I can’t get enough of that brassy gold!

IMG_8331Pin

The throw is from Crane & Canopy and was pulled from storage.

IMG_8317-2Pin

And the bed also came with the house, and was painted in Maison Blanche’s Wrought Iron.

IMG_8320Pin

For the dresser makeover, I updated the old knobs with this brass set found at a thrift store for a couple dollars.

IMG_8321Pin

I also found this folding coat rack at the Restore for $1 and stained it (adorable accessories also thrifted).

IMG_8323Pin

IMG_8338Pin

Come to think of it, this room cost me practically nothing!

IMG_8314Pin

If only the kitchen/bathrooms/exterior could be so affordable…

Okay, ready for Bedroom 5? This one was a real gem…

img_1720Pin

They committed to that mauve and maroon.

img_1731Pin

But at least I didn’t have to buy a dresser!

img_1721Pin

First came paint and flooring. I kept the mattress & box spring to save costs, and upgraded to a nice (and crazy inexpensive!) metal bed frame.

Screen-Shot-2017-01-17-at-11.29.07-AMPin

The dresser was given a refresh with Maison Blanche’s Wrought Iron and Ebay brass ring pulls.

IMG_7547Pin

And here it is, all grown up and a long way from the 60’s disco room…

IMG_8340Pin

I generally try to keep the color palette light and airy in these small rooms.

IMG_8344Pin

It expands the walls and gives your eyes a place to rest.

IMG_8347Pin

But then I love to mix in some black for contrast.

IMG_8354Pin

And sometimes pops of other colors… like this pale chippy green (shout out to my sis for letting me borrow her stool!)

IMG_8394Pin

That vintage lamp was actually in Bedroom #2, so to save time and money I reused it here. It puts off a lovely warm glow.

IMG_7603Pin

Let’s talk about the bedding!

IMG_8345Pin

I tried a couple different configurations—starting with my striped Ikea bedspread, but the Country Living stylist moved it to Bedroom 2 so I used my white ruffle duvet set from Crane & Canopy. A full and fluffy duvet is also key—I found this goose down on Wayfair for $50 and ended up buying 3.

IMG_8349Pin

Absolutely love this set. It’s so soft and versatile, and the ruffles make all the difference.

IMG_8179Pin

The sheet set is simple navy pinstripes found on Wayfair. Can’t beat a classic (especially for under $30!)

IMG_8393Pin

I added a solid navy and toile pillows pulled from storage (toile is from Ikea). And here’s the first setup again…

IMG_7611Pin

Details, details. Black and white always does it for me.

IMG_8390Pin

IMG_8387Pin

$0 spent on accessories in this room. All pulled from storage.

IMG_8396Pin

Down to the hat, bag and coat rack.

Last photo of the day!

Everything is so lovely Jenna! The bedrooms are cozy and inviting. I’m inspired now to tackle our guest room and purge unused items and old clothing that will never be worn. On a side note, when you flip your houses are you having to update the electrical to bring to current code or do you leave as is?

Thank you Denise! We did have to redo some of the old wiring in the kitchen, but as long as it passes the home/safety inspection I don’t believe it all has to be redone.

Enjoyed the changes you made in a very cute cottage. However, your links are not easy to use as they don’t link directly to the product described. I’ve tried more than one to be taken to an intermediary listing, or a page with many different items, none of which are that which was described. Isn’t there a way you can provide a direct link to the exact product from your post, or provide directions to the item number? I finally gave up trying to find things.

Ack, I’m sorry about that! This has happened once before and they said they fixed it, so I’ve submitted a request to have it fixed (permanently) ASAP. You can skip that landing page and go directly to the product link by clicking
“Skip these deals and continue” written in blue at the bottom, and it will take you to the correct page. Thank you for your patience!

Phyllis, I had that happen, too, and figured out that the”viglink” site it reroutes you to is just trying to offer alternatives on other sites. To never see it again, as I tested it, is to click the “what is this?” question at the bottom left of the page, where it takes you to a disable viglink option. You click “disable” and it will never take you to that /show you those other options again. Worked for me, and took me directly to Wayfair when I next clicked on Jenna’s links ?

Jenna, I’m enjoying your updates too much! It’s inspiring to see the Before and After pictures. You managed to set up a homey yet vacationing theme in all the bedrooms and bathrooms. I’m looking forward to next week’s budget and cost reveal. We will start a remodeling project in May, so I’d like to see what numbers you came up with in the end.
Good luck with the selling of this beautiful cottage!

I must admit when you first showed this house, I thought what does she see in it. You really have turned a dated mis-configured odd house into the diamond! Fantastic job. I hope it sells quickly and for good money. Looking forward to the budget breakdown. Thanks for sharing all of this makeover.

Everything that you’ve done to this house so far has been near perfection. It’s inspiring me! Also, I love that you kept so much of the wood; it really makes the house.
Just curious, do interested buyers have the option of buying the furniture and decor? Or is that all for staging purposes?

Thank you Robin! So far all interested parties have said they’d want it exactly the way it is. I’m not leaving everything behind though 😉

Jenna, thank you for a week of splendid reveals! The upstairs of your cottage flip feels like a light and airy BnB with a unique surprise behind every numbered door. Were you able to recycle all the boxsprings and mattresses that came with the house? Also, is the bed in #5 a full or queen size? I love the metal frame. Is it sturdy? The tree branch antlers make the room!

Thank you Denise! Thankfully I was able to reuse the mattresses so that saved a lot of time and money. Bedroom 5 is a queen size. It has been slept in a couple times and felt quite sturdy to me!
