Today I’m excited to share the results of our luxe for less bedroom makeover!
As mentioned in my design plans + progress post last month, we are way past our renovation timeline/budget on the Hacienda Hideaway, so I opted for a quick and low cost facelift for this room. That meant minimal DIY and deal hunting—while still making the bedroom feel like a luxe retreat.
Before
This is the second ensuite bedroom, fairly spacious at 10’x15′ but with one glaring issue—no natural light!
Even with the 9’4″ ceilings It felt like walking into a basement—dark, depressing and claustrophobic.
It also lacked personality and architectural detail, so I had to get creative to find simple, fast and affordable ways to make it stand out. Here’s how it looks today!
After
The biggest upgrade in this space is, hands down, swapping out the old metal exterior door with glass to let natural light in. I partnered with Simpson Door Company and chose their 7501 Thermal Sash in black walnut. They were able to customize the size to fit our non-standard opening, and the difference is truly night and day.
Never underestimate the power of natural light!
The other big change was squaring off the octagonal tray ceiling and adding DIY wood beams. Lucas built these in a few days for around $300 in materials. Talk about bang for your buck!
We also gave all of the cheap builder-grade interior doors our DIY plank makeover, which really elevated the look.
New baseboard and door trim was installed, along with a fresh coat of Alabaster paint and contrast trim.
I sourced affordable furnishings and decor that look high-end—like this huge 8′ tapestry for less than $200!
This large carved wood room divider makes the perfect headboard and statement-piece for a Moroccan inspired bedroom (I snagged it for $290 at Walmart, this morning it was $333 on Amazon and you can also find it for $380 at Wayfair).
I also found these woven pendants for a steal on Etsy—handmade in Morocco and $60 shipped for both when I caught them on sale!
The $99 reclaimed wood stools (stained black) were another great find on Amazon, but unfortunately unavailable now. Here’s a similar option for custom handmade stools at a very reasonable price.
The vintage-inspired Loloi rug was originally intended for the living room, but I thought the peach and ink tones worked well in this space. It’s available on Amazon and Amber Interiors, but currently on sale for 70% off here.
I partnered with The Company Store to make the bed feel extra luxe with linen sheets, duvet cover and a patterned quilt and shams. Tip: This pure linen bedding set on Amazon is a great budget dupe. I don’t think our guests will ever want to leave! 😉
Not too shabby for a quick facelift, right?? It’s still possible to make a big impact with a small budget (especially in bedrooms!) We came in at under $3k for this makeover, not including a few sponsored items like the exterior door, hardware and bedding. Our biggest purchase was the memory foam mattress, which is always worth the investment.
