Christmas has come early because today I’m revealing our last and FINAL makeover at the Hacienda Hideaway!
This evolution begins way back in 2021, when we walled off a corner of the main living area to create a fourth bedroom:
We were confined by two doorways and couldn’t make the room any larger, but we were determined to make this footprint work to sleep four guests.
After much brainstorming, we landed on a custom double twin bunk bed arrangement, and Lucas got to work building.
I shared a reel + stories on my Instagram documenting the build, which was completed back in October.
DIY beams were added along with lighting and furnishings, and how we have a cozy bunk room ready to welcome guests of all ages!
Custom bunk beds were not in the original plan, and even though it added several weeks to our renovation timeline, I’m so glad we did it.
The door and trim color throughout the house was carried over to the beds—Sherwin Williams Natural Tan.
To address the low/off center window, I used the same window treatment trick from our Modern Mediterranean bedroom.
The bedding was a steal of a find—beautiful kantha quilts and matching shams for only $66 shipped (and currently on sale!). They’re handmade in Jaipur, and I vividly remember walking through those quilt shops when we traveled through India six years ago.
I scored this gorgeous, extra large vintage painting tapestry on sale for $60. We attached it to 1×2’s at the top and bottom for a more finished look.
What do you think—would you sleep here?

Really appreciate your design skills. Could you share with me the dimensions of the bunk room please, in particular the width. Ty!
Rebecca says
What a beautiful room! This is my first time seeing your work–it’s incredible!
How did you attach the tapestry to the 1x2s, and then how did you hang the whole thing on the wall? I would love to try this. Thanks for any info you can provide!
Jenna Sue says
Thanks Rebecca! The tapestry was attached to the 1x2s with a staple gun, then hung on the wall with picture hanging hardware.
Ana says
Is the bunk ladder custom-made? Or did you get it somewhere?
Kelly says
This is positively incredible. I am just blown away every time you have revealed a room. Everything is simple, not a lot of clutter/furniture but completely warm and inviting. You both nailed it!
Jamie says
Yes! I would definitely sleep there! What a great use of space. Your color choices are always spot on.
Julia says
Jenna, would you please help me get the right color of Kantha quilt from Esme’s big girl room? The colors online are so confusing!
Thank you for all the inspiration!
Jenna Sue says
Ours is brown! These are handmade though and it seems they can vary in color.

I obviously come here for the inspirational content, but the comments are so dang positive and fun to read too! You’ve cultivated a great fan base!
Jenna Sue says
Thank you Julie! I feel really lucky to have this community ❤️
Katy says
Amazing! Love the tapestry. Out of interest, how did you attach it to the wood?
Jenna Sue says
Thanks Katy! We used a staple gun.
Katy says
How did you attach the 1x2s to the wall? Can’t see any screws.
