Christmas has come early because today I’m revealing our last and FINAL makeover at the Hacienda Hideaway!
This evolution begins way back in 2021, when we walled off a corner of the main living area to create a fourth bedroom:

We were confined by two doorways and couldn’t make the room any larger, but we were determined to make this footprint work to sleep four guests.

After much brainstorming, we landed on a custom double twin bunk bed arrangement, and Lucas got to work building.

I shared a reel + stories on my Instagram documenting the build, which was completed back in October.

DIY beams were added along with lighting and furnishings, and how we have a cozy bunk room ready to welcome guests of all ages!

Custom bunk beds were not in the original plan, and even though it added several weeks to our renovation timeline, I’m so glad we did it.

The door and trim color throughout the house was carried over to the beds—Sherwin Williams Natural Tan.

To address the low/off center window, I used the same window treatment trick from our Modern Mediterranean bedroom.

The bedding was a steal of a find—beautiful kantha quilts and matching shams for only $66 shipped (and currently on sale!). They’re handmade in Jaipur, and I vividly remember walking through those quilt shops when we traveled through India six years ago.

I scored this gorgeous, extra large vintage painting tapestry on sale for $60. We attached it to 1×2’s at the top and bottom for a more finished look.

What do you think—would you sleep here?

Gorgeous! May I ask what color the shades are? The link takes me to khaki white but yours seem to have vertical lines. Thank you!
Jenna Sue says
Thanks Irina! The color is D13-03 Gray Brown.

Everytime I see your DIY beams it builds my confidence that I could do something and have it come out roughly half as good and be happy with them. The whole room is great too as always.
Jenna Sue says
Thank you, Ben! You can absolutely do it and no one will notice if it’s not perfect 😉 Appreciate it!

WOWZA!!! You knocked it out of the park, girl! You guys created FOUR more to sleep in this hideaway home! Just boggles my mind how you even come up with these great ideas. Heck YES I would sleep there! Along with my two daughters and my granddaughter. We’d be happy as clams in that awesome space. Well done, Jenna Sue!!!
Jenna Sue says
Aw thanks Michele, I’m so glad you like the room!

You guys are amazing! So talented, I am inspired!
Chan says
You and your husband are so talented Jenna! Every space you design is beautiful and cohesive and somehow a perfect balance of cozy and minimal.
Jenna Sue says
I appreciate that Chan! ❤️
Natalie says
Love this Jenna! It turned out so, so good! ❤️
Arin says
Very pretty! Love the bunkbeds. But where will kids put their clothes?
Jenna Sue says
Thank you! I wish there was more space for amenities but we prioritized the sleeping arrangement. They’ll be able to fit suitcases long the wall with enough walking space.

You really made the most of this space that didn’t even exist when you purchased the house. It is cute and the addition of four more beds must be a real plus for a vacation home.
SH says
Beautiful work…kids especially are going to love those bunk beds! (perhaps hooks on the back of the door?)
Jenna Sue says
Yes, that’s a great idea!
Julie says
Hooks, hooks, hooks! All I ever want in a vacation house is hooks to hang up my clothings since I will never be putting them away in drawers but want them unpacked and off the floor.
Jenna Sue says
Thanks for the feedback! We will install hooks asap!

I love it! It’s great use of the space, the built in beds are amazing and the look so in keeping with the rest of the house. However I also wonder how living out of a suitcase on the floor will be acceptable, especially in a high end rental. Not quite so bad for kids, which I imagine this room is targeted for, but even so. Other than that, it’s perfect. Bet you are glad you are finished now! Time to make some money and put your feet up for a bit!
By the way, I decoupaged some tree baubles! I’d seen it on Pinterest just before your post arrived, and it spurred me on to have a bash. You can see at the end of my blog (link given here), it’s the most recent post. Thanks for giving me that push to have a go. xx

Another home run! Those are the best looking bunk beds I have ever seen! Y’all are amazing!
Jenna Sue says
Thank you so much, Margaret!

Absolutely stunning! I’m so excited for you being done with this house – it’s been a long journey! You’ve had a vision and carried it out beautifully and with reasonable/approachable budgets. It’s so inspiring what you and Lucas create together (and outsource where needed but still not much considering the scope of this house!).
I saw the ‘curtain trick’ right away – beautiful!
One thing to add for this room – a spot for clothes or bags for guests – a bench and hooks??
Anyway, would love to stay here when we visit family in Florida! Your guests are lucky!
Jenna Sue says
Thank you, MC! I wish we were able to fit bench but there’s just enough room to walk as is. We could find a spot for a hook, though! Thanks for your feedback 😀

AWESOME!!
Monica says
Oh wow – the built in cubbies, the lighting and charging outlets? You thought of everything. I love it!
Jenna Sue says
So glad you like it, Monica!

Ya know what? It looks fabulous! I had my doubts because it’s small especially for four beds but I think it could definitely be fun for a large family gathering. Great job!!
