When we signed the closing papers on this property back in April 2021, we couldn’t have imagined it would take us more than 2 ½ years to complete or that we’d double our estimated budget.
It has been our biggest renovation to date, full of setbacks and challenges, but also some very proud moments and personal highs. We’ve grown as designers/DIYers and learned valuable lessons we’ll carry forth into future projects.
It is with great joy and relief that I can finally share the full house tour with you today. Join me for the video tour below!

I’m curious to know—what was your favorite Before + After or DIY project from this house? Cast your vote below!
It’s hard to pick favorites, but for me, I’m still really proud of the backyard transformation. That space was certainly the most challenging, costly and took two years to complete, but it will be enjoyed year round here in Florida and I’d say it was worth the investment.
How much did this all cost?
We’ve been keeping track of our expenses throughout this process, and as it turns out, renovating a house is not cheap 😅 Even with Lucas doing most of the work himself, carefully sourcing budget-conscious materials, and sponsored items… our grand total came in at ~$236k. Labor made up $95k of that, with $141k spent on building materials, furnishings, etc. And as you may recall, the backyard makeover alone cost $105k!
Now keep in mind, this includes fully furnishing and stocking an entire 4 bed/3 bath house for a higher end vacation rental, which takes up a good portion of that budget.
I hope you’ve enjoyed following our journey over the last 2+ years and have gained inspiration for your own home projects. if you’re looking for sources from any room, you can always find them on my Hacienda Hideaway Sources page. If you’d like to book a stay, you can find the listing here on AirBnb.
In next week’s post, I’ll be recapping the most memorable moments of 2023 along with some exciting news for the new year. Cheers to good things ahead!

Do you consult?
We are planning a basement renovation, and I’d love your input!

I love receiving your emails and read/check each project out thoroughly, you are both so talented and I love that you share the process for all the makeovers.
The work that you and Lucas have put into this project is incredible. The projects you took on and finished are outstanding and your style is impeccable! I could quite happily move in and live there.
I hope that all the people who rent this house treat it with respect.
Trying to pick a favourite makeover was really impossible, for me it came down to the pool area or the laundry. I voted for the laundry because it was just that little bit different and because I would replicate it in my home in a different colourway
Jenna Sue says
Thank you so much, Heather! That means a lot. Glad you enjoyed the renovation!

I have read your great blog for a long, long time–before you moved to Tampa- and have always admired your stunning design work. (I dabble a bit myself. My husband and I just completed a complete gut/redo on a small home to have as a rental so I completely understand the above commenter’s suggestion to just sell so a renter doesn’t mess it up. DON’T!)
Sorry to ramble but I just had to finally comment to say this home is stunning! Beyond stunning! And to think you two juggled it all with two little ones. Keep up the great work!

This was surely a labor of love! Every room is magnificent! Well done!
Sherry says
This entire house is stunning. I have enjoyed watching you carefully and thoughtfully renovate each space blending each room with the other, but yet each its own unique space. I can’t imagine letting renters into this house. You should sell this one!
Sherry says
This whole house is absolutely stunning. I would sell it and not let renters mess it up!

What a beautiful transformation! You and your spouse are so talented. I picked the kitchen as my favorite, but really it was a tie between the kitchen and the backyard which is gorgeous! May I ask what paint you used on the kitchen cabinets? Stunning! Thanks for letting us see it all!
Jenna Sue says
Thanks Denise! The kitchen cabinets are BM October Mist. You can read more about them here: https://www.jennasuedesign.com/diy-kitchen-cabinets-reveal-with-nieu-cabinet-doors/
Sandra says
Bravo! Seriously.. BRAVO!!! Mind blowing transformation!
Jenna Sue says
So glad you like it, Sandra!

I voted for the Laundry, but I want to explain why, because there are so many transformations that I love – two of the three bathrooms and the outdoor space. But being a blue lover, I really wasn’t expecting colour in your laundry so it was a lovely surprise and the patterned tiles on the floor are faves of mine too. So that’s why!
You’ve done an amazing job overall and I hope you are going to put your feet up now! Will you get the house valued to see if you have covered your costs? I hope so. It should sell so easily if you ever want to anyway. Bravo you two!
Jenna Sue says
Thanks for sharing that, Mandy! The laundry room was a fun one. We actually did appraise and refinance the house a couple months ago!
Peggy S says
You and Lucas took this house from blah, boring, awkward (those windows!) to serene, comfortable and stylish. The challenges brought out your ingenuity and talents!
Jenna Sue says
What a kind thing to say, Peggy! Happy Holidays ❤
Karen says
You have absolutely blown my socks off. I hope the house is yours after all that work, you should move in and love it every single day! Congratulations!!
Jenna Sue says
Thanks Karen! We will enjoy visiting and jumping in the pool from time to time 😉

To have even a tad of Lucas and your talent! Initially the renovation cost looked out of sight but taking the backyard expense (WELL worth incurring) makes the total seriously reasonable! Can’t wait to see what is ahead 😍😍!
Karen says
I scrolled through multiple times trying to choose a fav. Also a devoted fan and spend time on each post always. There are so many things I love about your work. I cannot decide. There is nothing I don’t love.
Jenna Sue says
Thank you Karen! So glad you enjoyed following this renovation. Happy holidays!
